Birth of Mother Earth

Hey! I’m Lucy- the hands behind Muda Erda.

Muda Erda was birthed to honour the elements and cycles of creation seen by Mother Earth, with the promise to give back to her with each piece purchased. Each piece is hand-crafted with love, deepening the connection to our home.

I see the possibilities of pottery are as endless and as powerful as the paradigm of nature.
Ancient Greek philosophy theorised that the universe comprised of what we know as the four elements; Earth, Water, Air and Fire. These four elements are also quintessential to pottery as clay is dug from within the Earth, is shaped and transmuted with Water, slowly drying out the body to take form with Air, and solidifying the pieces with Fire.
I just love how it mirrors the fundamental parts of our existence, art embodying the Earth.

I’m based in Western Australia, creating out of the comfort of my own home after transforming on one side of my garage into a studio! You may notice, the glaze colours are drawing inspiration from some breathtaking spots that we are so lucky to witness and call home!

I’d also love to take this as an opportunity to acknowledge the Whadjuk Noongar people, the traditional custodians of this land. And recognise their connection to this land and the waters from which we unearth. Also paying my respects to Elders past and present, extending the respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

It’s super important for me to remain as low impact and sustainable as I can with shipping supplies, which were carefully sourced to ensure they can break down easily and don’t contribute to landfill, see more on this page.

I value full transparency when it comes to sustainability, but I also value creative artists, slow & small businesses, and giving back to ourselves with love- which sometimes translates simply as an undisturbed morning cuppa tea or coffee.

With love,
Lucy  ✿
